The Best Kitesurf Camps in Morocco
Because of its proximity to Europe, Morocco is particularly popular with families wanting to spend a few days holiday in the sun. It's also a top destination for fans of board sports. For kitesurfing, the country promises sailing conditions that are as varied as they are accessible. The best spots are to be found south of Dakhla and in the Essaouira region. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced kiteboarder, these Moroccan paradises are highly recommended.

The icing on the cake is the breathtakingly beautiful scenery.
Best conditions: summer and all year round with constant winds

Experienced kitesurfers are well aware that this sport requires quite specific weather conditions. The truth is, you need a strong wind to lift you up, but the wind in question must also be stable and regular. That's why areas like Dakhla, where the weather is mild, are the place to be.
In winter as in summer, the magnificent Moroccan beaches offer unforgettable experiences. That said, the best places in Dakhla to start or improve your kitesurfing skills are :
- Lagoon, in the middle of the desert: Dakhla Natural Park Kitesurf Camp
- Speed spot, to kite in freestyle
- The mouth of the lagoon, where you can enjoy both the flat waters of the lagoon and the waves of the ocean: Kitesurf Resort Dakhla Lassarga
Essaouira : Surf, Yoga, Kitesurf, Wingfoil & Windsurf

Situated on a peninsula surrounded by lush forests and the Atlantic Ocean, Essaouira has always attracted travellers. Its authentic medina and port are a fortified complex that was built at the end of the 18th century and has been included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Beach: A long, curved beach that offers a breathtaking view of the port and the island of Mogador. It really is the perfect place to spend hours outdoors as you can explore the old town between kitesurfing sessions.
Best conditions: summer
Temperature: 21 - 30 °C
Still little known to the average person, the Bay of Essaouira is a real gem of kitesurfing in Morocco. This little fortress seduces kitesurfers with its sandy coastline and half-moon shape. What's more, the trade winds are excellent for a memorable session. In fact, the trade winds mean that this spot benefits from a strong side-shore breeze almost all year round. You'll also enjoy shallow, surprisingly clear water. In other words, all the conditions seem right for beginners to try their hand at kitesurfing, windsurfing or surfing.
Generally speaking, the kiteboarding season in Essaouira starts at the end of March and doesn't end until November. Nevertheless, kitesurfers can expect 15, even 25 knots throughout the year, particularly in the afternoons. But for advanced kiteboarders, the steady winds of summer are ideal for kicking things up a gear to 35 knots.
The trade winds over Essaouira Bay
As you will have realised, constant, strong summer winds are the best way to enjoy your passion to the full. At this time of year, the bay is swept by trade winds from the north and north-east. Waves are highly variable during this main kitesurfing season, ranging from flat to spectacularly high. For this reason, local kitesurfing schools favour those parts of Essaouira Bay where the wind blows towards the shore. This safety measure is taken to avoid danger.
When you're in Morocco during the trade wind season, large wings are not recommended. Instead, a 9 or 10 metre piece of equipment is more appropriate. What's more, the water can quickly become cold, due to the same trade wind phenomenon. In that case, you'll need a 3/2 or 4/3 mm wetsuit.
