Better surfing through yoga: myth or a genuine way to improve?

Sunset drinks, dinner at the villa, early-morning sessions: a typical week at the surf camp
Are you thinking of going on holiday on your own but feeling a bit apprehensive? You might be wondering whether you’ll get bored, whether the atmosphere will be friendly, or whether you’ll find it easy to fit in. These are perfectly legitimate questions when it comes to a traditional hotel stay, but they’re completely unfounded in the world of surf camps.
In fact, coming to a surf camp on your own is often the best decision you could make for your next holiday.
At Surf & Yoga Hossegor, many of our participants – particularly those over 30 – arrive on their own with just a rucksack and leave with a whole new group of friends. You’ll discover why taking the plunge into a solo adventure at our Surf Villa in Seignosse is a rewarding experience that will exceed all your expectations.

Complete freedom: your own timetable, your own choices
Travelling alone is, above all, about treating yourself to the ultimate luxury: that of having to make no compromises whatsoever. You don’t need to negotiate what time you get up, which restaurant to choose or what to do in the afternoon. This freedom is a real asset when it comes to making the most of your holiday.
At our camp, you’re free to organise your days however you like. You’re perfectly free to choose to get up at dawn to take part in a functional yoga session – the mat’s waiting for you. Or perhaps you’d prefer to take a break under the pine trees, relax in the shade or hop on a bike to explore the Étang Noir nature reserve. You’re in charge of your own time and activities. This break from your usual social obligations is the first step towards reconnecting deeply with yourself.
“A solo surf camp strikes the perfect balance between complete independence during the day and the warmth of a friendly group in the evening.”
Meet genuine people, far from the ‘holiday club’ atmosphere
The most common fear among solo travellers is finding themselves in an impersonal atmosphere, similar to a holiday club where interactions seem forced. That is precisely what we wanted to avoid when we set up Surf & Yoga Hossegor.
We have limited the capacity of our Surf Villa to a maximum of 20 people. This intimate setting radically changes the dynamic of the experience. Here, you’re not part of an anonymous group, but rather part of a large family home or a shared flat with like-minded people.
By choosing our ‘Mind & Body’ camp, you’re sure to meet people who share your values: a love of sport, respect for nature, a preference for healthy eating and a caring atmosphere, far removed from the excesses of ultra-party camps. Surfing is a wonderful icebreaker. Mutual encouragement in the water, video debriefs and passionate discussions about the waves quickly forge genuine, lasting bonds.
You arrive on your own… and leave with a bunch of friends
The magic of our camp really comes into its own at the end of the day. After an intense session on the unspoilt beach at Les Casernes, inhibitions naturally fade away. The moments we share become the glue that binds these new friendships together.
A sunset aperitif on the beach is often the highlight of the day: sitting on the sand with a cool drink in hand, you can look back together on the session’s highlights as the sun sets. The return to the Villa is extended as we gather round our large, convivial table. The healthy, home-cooked dinners, prepared by our nutritionist, provide plenty of opportunities to chat about your life stories, laugh at your own surfing mishaps and plan the next day’s sessions.
“You arrive feeling a bit apprehensive about the unknown, and you leave with the contact details of your new friends for your next surfing trip.”
A supportive environment where you can push yourself with confidence
Learning to surf or improving your skills often means stepping out of your comfort zone. This can seem daunting when travelling alone. However, at our camp, you’ll benefit from premium coaching with groups limited to between 5 and 8 people per instructor. This means you’ll be supported, guided and encouraged every step of the way as you progress.
You can choose to share a spacious room, thereby extending the sense of togetherness, or opt for a more private space, depending on your preferences. Whichever you choose, you’ll find a thoughtful balance between independence and support here with us.
Don’t let your friends’ busy schedules hold you back from your desire for adventure and surfing. Take the plunge on your own, join Surf & Yoga Hossegor and get ready to experience one of the best weeks of your life!
