If you ask a local surfer from the Landes region about their favourite spot in the height of summer, there’s a good chance they’ll lower their voice before answering. In a world where surf spots are becoming increasingly crowded, uncluttered space has become a rare luxury.

At the Surf & Yoga Camp Seignosse, we’ve chosen to offer you this luxury by making Casernes Beach in Seignosse our favourite playground.

Far from the cameras in Hossegor and the hustle and bustle of the central beaches, Casernes Beach retains a wild and unspoilt atmosphere. But beyond its natural charm, it is above all its geographical and oceanic conditions that, in our view, make it the ideal spot in the region for learning and improving your skills.

Une marche de 5 minutes qui filtre la foule

La magie des Casernes commence bien avant que vous ne découvriez l’océan. Située tout au nord de la commune de Seignosse, à la lisière de la forêt domaniale, cette plage se mérite. Contrairement à certains spots urbains où vous garez votre voiture à quelques mètres du sable, l’accès aux Casernes nécessite une courte marche d’environ 3 minutes à travers une majestueuse pinède, suivie de l’ascension d’une dune^[1].

Cette petite « randonnée » agit comme un filtre naturel efficace. Elle décourage la majorité des vacanciers pressés ainsi que les grandes écoles de surf qui préfèrent la facilité logistique. Vous bénéficiez ainsi d’une session plus tranquille, loin de la foule.

Lorsque vous atteignez le sommet de la dune, la récompense est à la hauteur de l’effort : une étendue de sable fin à perte de vue, vierge de toute construction, où l’horizon s’ouvre sans limite. Le stress de la vie urbaine s’efface instantanément.

La bathymétrie : le secret des vagues indulgentes

Whilst tranquillity is essential for learning without fear of being judged by others, it is beneath the surface of the water that the key difference lies. The shape of a wave is directly linked to that of the seabed, known as bathymetry.

At Hossegor’s famous surf spots, the sandbanks are often steep, which generates waves that ‘crash’ abruptly, creating fast and powerful tubes. At Les Casernes, the sedimentary dynamics are different: the sandbanks there are generally flatter and more spread out^[2].

It is this gentle nature of the ocean that enables our instructors to apply our teaching method effectively. In our small groups of 5 to 8 people, you have all the time you need to listen to the instructions, give it a go, fall over without fear of hurting yourself, and try again.

A video analysis laboratory

Another major advantage of Casernes Beach is its brightness and vast expanse, which make it a veritable open-air studio, ideal for video analysis. Our coaches can set up comfortably on the beach to film your waves with great precision.

Thanks to the low number of people at the spot, you can easily have the camera frame all to yourself. Back at the Surf Villa, the video debrief becomes crystal clear: you can clearly see your posture, your paddling and your mistakes, without other surfers getting in the way.

Environmental protection at the heart of the session

Surfing at Les Casernes also means becoming aware of the fragility of this exceptional natural environment. The dune bordering the beach is a protected ecosystem, home to specific plant life, notably marram grass and sand bindweed, which are essential for combating coastal erosion^[3].

At our camp, we systematically raise our pupils’ awareness of the importance of preserving this environment. Our theory lessons are not limited to the weather and tides; they also include teaching pupils to respect the dunes and the ocean.
