How much does a surfing holiday cost? An investment in your child’s development
Sending your child to a summer camp is a big decision, and it’s natural to have concerns about their safety and wellbeing, especially in the event of an emergency. At Ocean Adventure, we fully understand these concerns. That is why we make it a point of honour to offer you complete transparency regarding our protocols for managing medical emergencies and specific dietary requirements. Here, you will find out how we ensure the best possible care, so that your child can enjoy their stay to the full with complete peace of mind.

Thorough management of unforeseen medical events: your peace of mind
Although surfing is an exciting sport, it requires constant vigilance. Safety at surf camps is our top priority. We have put in place a comprehensive system to anticipate and manage any emergency situation, whether it’s a minor graze or a more serious accident.
“The emotional security a child feels is what shapes them.” [1]
As soon as your child arrives, we collect all essential medical information via a detailed health form. This form includes medical history, current treatments, known allergies and the contact details of people to be contacted in an emergency. You can rest assured that this information is treated with the utmost confidentiality and is accessible to our supervisory team at all times.
Our team: trained and responsive professionals
Every member of our management team is trained in first aid (PSC1 or equivalent). Our surf instructors also hold the State Certificate and are specifically trained in life-saving techniques in aquatic environments. You therefore benefit from the constant presence of qualified professionals who are able to respond quickly and effectively.
In the event of an injury or accident, here is our procedure:
- Immediate assessment: The supervisor assesses the situation and the severity of the injury.
- First aid: First aid is administered on the spot.
- Alert: Parents are informed of the situation immediately.
- Medical care: Depending on the severity of the condition, a member of our team will take the child to the nearest medical centre (health centre, hospital). We work closely with the local health services in Seignosse and Hossegor.
- Follow-up: Regular follow-up is provided with parents and healthcare professionals until the child has recovered.
Surf camp insurance: essential cover
For optimum protection, our surf camp includes third-party liability insurance covering any damage your child may cause to third parties. We also recommend that you check your own personal insurance or your child’s insurance (school or extracurricular insurance) to ensure you have full cover in the event of a personal injury. Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding insurance; we’ll be happy to help.
Allergies and diets: personalised care for every child
Managing allergies and special dietary requirements is a major concern for many parents. At Surf & Yoga Hossegor, we take this responsibility very seriously. We offer a personalised approach to ensure that your child can eat safely and enjoy their meals.
“When a child with food allergies is cared for in a group setting, the food allergen(s) in question must be completely eliminated, which is vital to prevent an allergic reaction.” [2]
When you register, you have the option to let us know about any food allergies (peanuts, gluten, lactose, etc.), intolerances or special dietary requirements (vegetarian, pork-free, etc.). It is essential that you provide us with complete and accurate information.
Our allergy management protocol:
-
- Proactive communication: As soon as we receive your health form, our kitchen and management team are informed of your child’s specific needs.
- Special menus: Our chefs create balanced and tasty menus, taking dietary restrictions into account. Alternative meals are always prepared for children with allergies or specific dietary requirements.
- Prevention of cross-contamination: Our kitchen is organised to minimise the risk of cross-contamination. Dedicated utensils and preparation areas can be used where necessary.
- Close supervision: During mealtimes, supervisors ensure that each child eats the meal provided for them and remind them of food safety guidelines.
- Emergency kit: In the event of a severe allergic reaction requiring emergency treatment (e.g. an adrenaline auto-injector), you must provide us with the necessary equipment, together with a prescription and detailed instructions on how to administer it. Our team is trained in the use of these devices.
You can trust us to provide your child with a stress-free surf camp, where their dietary requirements are strictly adhered to. We encourage open and ongoing communication with parents to ensure the best possible care.
