Where to go during the day?
To take your mind off surfing or swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Lobos, there are plenty of opportunities to try out original activities and discover Corralejo and its surroundings in a different way.
Don’t forget to bring your driving licence so you can explore the picturesque landscapes of Fuerteventura by quad bike or buggy. This is an ideal and original way to visit volcanoes and beaches, often with stops for snacks or swimming depending on the route chosen for the trip. Outings are often organised in groups with instructors, and include stops for explanations or photo opportunities.
A must-see destination that guarantees a complete change of scenery: Corralejo Natural Park.
This place offers a magnificent landscape that combines the tranquillity of wide open spaces filled with white sand dunes and the proximity of the ocean.
It is primarily a large expanse of sand dunes, home to a rich desert fauna and flora (the area is also classified as a Special Bird Protection Area). This mini-Sahara stretches for a good ten kilometres along the coast… and the views from the coastal road and in the background are of the islands of Lanzarote and Lobos. There are several car parks along the road, allowing you to reach the white sandy beaches in just ten minutes on foot.
Those who come to stay in July will attend the festivities dedicated to Our Lady of Carmen, patron saint of fishermen.
The patron saint of the city is celebrated for two weeks during which people dance all night long, the streets are lavishly decorated, and numerous sporting events, including a regatta (Regata de vela latina), are organised.
Their journey ends at the fishing port with the release of doves and fireworks. Elsewhere, processions may take place on decorated boats. Over time, this procession has become an event of great popular fervour, shared by an impressive crowd of tourists. For two weeks, worshippers from all over the island of Fuerteventura and holidaymakers gather for this pilgrimage, where music, food, dancing and friendship are shared for hours on end.
