The best things to do in Taghazout by Jacques – Konbini
The World Surf League and Rip Curl are delighted to announce the confirmation of the Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay 2022. This exciting Qualifying Series (QS) event will return after a successful first edition in early 2020 before the global pandemic put a stop to surfing events worldwide.
“We are thrilled to be returning to Morocco and finally bringing the event back to Taghazout Bay”, said Cheyne Bradburn, Head of Events and Marketing for WSL Europe. « The first edition was incredible, and we were all disappointed not to be able to host it in 2021. The event will now go to the next level with Rip Curl coming on board, which confirms the potential of this event and rewards the work done locally to make it happen in 2020 « . The Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay is not only a major international surfing competition, but also a great way to promote this world-class surfing destination. »

“When we first discussed our involvement with the QS event in Anglet, we said we were keen to sponsor one or more events elsewhere”, said Mathieu Lefin, president of Rip Curl Europe. ” We wanted to see professional surfing return to our region and we felt that the QS events needed our support, so we said we would also sponsor the QS event in Taghazout Bay. We want this event in Morocco to reflect the spirit of “The Search”, having held “The Search” events in Reunion Island, Mexico, Chile, Bali, the USA and most recently on Rottnest Island in Australia. We are delighted to be sponsoring the Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay, which will be an important step towards the European and African legs of the QS in 2022″.

Although not strictly speaking a first, Taghazout is a new addition to the Qualifying Series, counting for both the European and African circuits, bringing the best surfers from both continents to the world-class waves of Anchor Point.
When the event took place last year, conditions allowed the competition to first take place at Anza, a relief venue that also proved epic with super undulating waves and countless excellent numbers. But as soon as the first real swell appeared on the maps, the anticipation was too much for the surfers who wanted to compete on the world-class rights of Anchor Point, a perfect, long and powerful wave. The wave turned out to be as marvellous as expected, with two days of incredible competition finally crowning Californian Nat Young as the event’s winner.

The second edition of the Pro Taghazout Bay is supported by the Royal Moroccan Surfing Federation, which has been a partner of the World Surf League since the inaugural Pro Casablanca in 2015.
“We are delighted to be involved once again in supporting this important event, which gives Moroccan surfers the opportunity to hone their skills against some of the best surfers in the world”, said Mohamed Kadmiri, the federation’s president. “This new edition comes at an important time when Moroccan surfers, both men and women, are becoming increasingly interested in professional surfing. Through national, international and Olympic events, the federation’s clear objective is to educate Moroccan surfers.”
The QS 3,000 Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay returns for its second edition and promises to be an incredible surfing event. From 18 to 26 February, surfers from all over the world will gather in Taghazout Bay, Morocco, to take part in this exciting tournament, which will count towards the rankings of the African and European Qualifying Series (QS) regional rounds.
This event is a key moment for surfers looking to make a name for themselves in the surfing world and climb the competitive ladder. Points earned at this tournament can help them qualify for the bigger tours, such as the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour.
The QS 3,000 Rip Curl Pro Search Taghazout Bay also offers a unique opportunity for surf fans to see some of the world’s best surfers in action. The competition will be intense and participants will be giving their all to showcase their talent and win the title.
