Fuerteventura is one of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the second largest in the archipelago in terms of the size of each island. In addition, as it is 97 kilometres from the coasts of Morocco, it enjoys a very mild and almost desert climate. Due to its geographical location, Fuerteventura is more or less permanently exposed to the northeast trade winds. As a result, the island is home to a number of spots known for surfing, winsurfing and kitesurfing.

What is the best season to kite surf in Fuerteventura?
Kitesurfing attracts athletes from all over the world to Fuerteventura. Indeed, the island has many spots where they can fully thrive in their passion. Even those who are just starting out in this discipline can find spots where they can have fun with the wind and waves in complete safety. But whatever your level is, you need optimal weather conditions in order to fully enjoy your stay in the second largest island in the Canary Islands.
The Canary Islands have only 2 seasons: spring and autumn… These islands are known for the mild climate and the subtropical culture with Latin American and European blends… It’s one of the kite capitals in Europe all year round.
However, to be precise about kitesurfing in the canaries and Fuerteventura in particular, there are 3 seasons: high, medium and low.
For kitesurfing the best season is from April to August, you can organize 5 courses over a one-week stay.
The months of September, October, November, December, January and February are generally average but we will have regular wind, but not necessarily every day, as can be the case during the wind season. We recommend choosing 3 kite lessons for a one-week stay and taking more on site if the conditions are good.
Generally, the wind can increase to an average of 15 knots in the middle of the afternoon.

From April to August the weather conditions are optimal and you are sure to be able to kite every day! Be careful not to forget your small sails!

The mid season in Fuerteventura: February to April
The air and water temperatures in winter in Fuerteventura are very advantageous. If the French winter temperatures prevent you from getting into the water, you will prefer the mild Canary Islands! Peak winds are sufficient to place 4 or 5 sessions per week.

Low season in Fuerteventura: September to January
As the temperature is quite pleasant all year round and the wind blows more or less permanently, it is possible to organize your kite trip in Fuerteventura even in winter during the low season!
In the low season, the wind speeds average 11 knots, but this is very variable over a week. There can therefore be days with very good conditions as well as days of calm.
The water temperature is mild all year round, if you can’t kite every day, you can always try other water sports like surfing or wakeboarding.

What to do when there is no wind?
Our kite camp offers you the opportunity to replace kite lessons with wakeboard, sup, or surf.
For surfing, the season for good waves for intermediate levels is from September to March.
You can bring your own equipment but as the conditions are very variables at certain period, it can be easier to rent it dependning of the conditions of the day. You can book your equipment online. Please don’t forget to tell us the sizes you need.
