The surf camp is a small hostel located in the quiet village of Porto Da Cruz, Madeira Island. It used to be a family house dating back to the nineteenth century, which after being renovated has become a comfortable place that mixes the blue of the sea, the surf and the waves with the green of the mountains, paths and levadas. The name Jaca comes from a regionalism of Madeira Island which means little crab.
This property is 1 minute walk from the beach. Located in Porto da Cruz, the hostel has a garden, a terrace and a shared lounge. Free WiFi is available.
We offer private rooms with twin and double beds and a shared dormitory for up to 6 people. All rooms have wooden floors and simple, pleasant decoration.
Mixed Dormitory
Dormitory with seven beds and a shared bathroom. This place is built entirely of wood and reminds us of the time when we had sleepovers with our friends as children. And the view from the window is magnificent.
Loana : Group stay
"Very nice and warm youth hostel. Off season (we were there at the end of October), don't miss the burger and pizza nights (2 nights/week) which bring people to the hostel (otherwise the village is quite quiet). Lovely hosts, good spaces to meet other guests. The dormitory in the attic is very pleasant to sleep in, a little corner just for you will be proposed! The house is very pretty, we are close to beaches, restaurants...it was perfect!"
Single Bed in Mixed Dormitory
Four-bed dormitory with two bunk beds and a shared bathroom. This is the ideal room for those looking for a community hostel experience. All beds are equipped with lockers.
Double room
Double room with queen size bed and private bathroom. This room is perfect for two people who don't mind sharing the duvet or for a single traveller who likes to sleep on the other side of the bed.
Twin room
Double room with two single beds and private bathroom. This room is ideal for people who fight over the duvet or simply want a little more space and privacy.
Suite
Suite with queen size bed, private bathroom and balcony. This is the star room of the hotel. It has a large comfortable bed, a pleasant decoration and a private bathroom. The main feature of the room is its large balcony which offers magnificent views of the Penha D'Águia mountain.

We propose, all year round, the rental of kitesurfing equipment. You must of course confirm that you have an autonomous level when you arrive at our school.

Adventure
Are you staying at our camp and would like to explore the levadas and trails in the area, but do not have a car? You are spoilt for choice, just around the corner from us. Our favourites are the following:
- The trail from Boca do Risco to Larano starts in the parish of Machico and ends in the town of Porto da Cruz. It follows ancestral agricultural paths where traditional forms of cultivation can be observed
- The Castelejo Levada is a trail that begins in the densely populated area of the parish of Porto da Cruz and gradually immerses its walkers in the Laurissilva forest, far from any civilisation.
- It is a challenge. Starting from the centre of the village of Porto da Cruz, it proposes the conquest of the geological (and mythological, ask the locals) giant that is the Penha D'Águia, through a steep ascent to the top. But the view from up there is worth all the effort, we guarantee.
