This castle was built in 1920 by the Boticas family. The designer was a Portuguese architect called José Rodrigues Prieto, and he teamed up with a builder called Jaime Santos. For many years it was the only house on the beach in Baleal and today it can still be seen from several kilometres away!
In 1942 the house was bought by Joao Castanheira and became his family holiday home for many decades.

The Surfcamp is a vintage surf hotel on the beach of Baleal. It offers the best location for surfers in the whole Peninsula of Peniche. This beautiful home stands proudly on the cliffs of Baleal beach with views of some of Portugal's best and most consistent surf spots from the windows and terraces.

Get up, have breakfast while doing your morning check with a beautiful sunrise and go surfing where the waves call you!

Baleal will never be short of cafes, bars and restaurants, the Portuguese gastronomy will accompany you throughout your stay! Enjoy locally caught fish, a typical Portuguese drink while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Bay of Baleal!

Peniche, a small fishing town only 4 km (5 minutes drive) from Baleal offers many restaurants with fantastic cuisine with the best meat, fish and wine Portugal has to offer. Ask a member of the Surfcamp team to recommend a restaurant and we will be happy to book you a table or a taxi for your evening.

Peniche Airport

There is a taxi service from Lisbon airport to the Surfcamp (and vice versa), and it costs €100 for transport by car or €150 for transport by Surfcamp van. We would be happy to book the taxi for you, please contact us with your flight details!
