The formula for the very young: the wave garden introduces children from the age of 5! Suitable supervision and a suitable spot will enable future little surfers to acclimatise to the marine environment in complete safety.

Basque Coast Surf School, Hendaye

Our surf school is located in Hendaye by the old Casino. You don't have to carry any heavy equipment, you're right on the beach!

Hendaye, a surf spot for beginners and intermediates!

Hendaye's long beach (3.5km) is a garden for beginner surfers. The waves are rarely too big and this very flat beach slows down the swell and allows you to surf on all occasions unless the swell is really weak (less than 1m and 6-7sec period).
The best waves are found in the middle of the bay towards the Casino.
The bigger it is, the more you surf on the sides.
It's also a fallback spot when the swells are too big for the other spots.
Beware, as with all the other spots on the Basque coast, the waves are not good at high tide and at low tide the wave size tends to drop.
The advantage of this beach is that it is very large. This spot is ideal for beginners!

Hendaye, the largest sandy beach on the Basque coast

It was here that Pauline Ado, world junior surfing champion in 2009, surfed her first waves. With its policy of preserving sensitive natural areas, Hendaye also has a "wild" aspect all along the Corniche road.
From the giant wave of Belharra (Urrugne) to the "green slopes" for beginners in the Bay of Hendaye, the southernmost part of the Basque coast boasts an uncommon diversity of spots, and reminds us that the best surfer of all is the one who has the most fun.

Ideally located, you'll enjoy a top quality surf lesson and spend 1h30 in the water!

Remember to book in advance, because in summer and during school holidays, slots are taken over 7 days and there is no room for last-minute bookings.

What should I bring for my surf lesson?

We provide the board, wetsuit, instructor and transport if the ocean is stormy and you have to leave the site to go to a fallback spot. Just bring a swimming costume to wear under your wetsuit, a towel, a change of clothes and a bottle of water.

What time are lessons?

We organise all-day courses, usually 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. In high season, 5 lessons may be possible.
We organise the groups ourselves, according to age and level, to ensure you get the most out of your lessons.
